Pretty Little Finds...

This weekend began with exploring local thrift stores for unique and trendy pieces to add to our growing collection at Curiosities & Oddities.

Pictured above, is an oriental vintage pendant on a gold tone chain, featuring a folding fan. Yes, this fan actually opens and closes! An intricate embossed design showcases a giraffe, a flying crane and shrubbery. Suspended from the pendant a brass tassel gently hangs. This exquisite necklace would make a charming accessory.

Next up, are these luxurious bronze earrings. The top of these earrings showcase delicate flowers known as fleur de lis. The vibrant turquoise gems, add a pop of color and beauty to the solid dangling tassels. Do you have a special date night coming up? These elegant earrings would certainly add a pop of style and flair.

A common and stylish necklace I've seen men and women add to their jewelry collection is a sideways cross. Some individuals wear a sideways cross, simply because it's one of the latest fashion trends. Others wear a cross necklace to represent their religious beliefs. Have you ever wondered why the cross is sideways and not vertical?

After doing a little bit of research, I learned that there are a few different theories. One theory is explained that the sideways cross is a representation of life lived on earth. It's a symbol of humanity, living between Heaven and Hell. Other's interpret the sideways cross in reference to the time Jesus carried the cross, over his shoulder. It is not upright, but at a slant. It's a reminder of the Lord's suffering for mankind.

Whichever way you do or don't view the sideways cross - this piece of jewelry is classic and dainty, fastened on a long, faux golden chain.

This fun little owl has been stashed away in a box of jewelry for the past couple of years. This pendant has been missing a cord ever since I came to possess it. This was the weekend I finally fastened a faux leather cord to the pendant. It has a variety of color in an aztec design, running through it's dangly body. She's finally made her debut and is now available at the shop.

I priced up our new finds while sipping a delicious Vanilla Chai Latte at Ole Sal's Cafe & Creamery. As you can see, I added a number of mystery and thriller books to our growing book collection.
