It isn’t a secret that owl jewelry flies off our shelves!
Owls are most commonly known to represent wisdom, but there is a deeper and complex meaning behind this mysterious creature.
In Greek mythology, the Goddess Athena, known for wisdom and strategy, is pictured with an owl perched on her shoulder. She has an owl on her blind side, in order for her to see truth in all things.
In ancient Egyptian, Hindu and Celtic cultures the owl symbolizes a guardian of the underworld and protector of the dead.
Owls are associated with darkness; for that is the time they thrive. They are closely connected to the moon and it’s ever changing cycles and transitions.
Unfortunately, not every interpretation of the owl is positive.
Some Native American tribes recognized owls to be a symbol of death. During battle, a “war cry” of an owl would be issued. The ‘hoot,’ signaled an approaching attack. With most battles, there are casualties. This is why some tribes associated the owl with death.
Would it make you feel better if I told you that mimicking an owl is probably the easiest bird call to recreate?
Also, death in symbolic terms does not mean your untimely death awaits you. It simply means a transition. Energy changes from one form into another. It does not have to be physical; it could be emotionally, mentally or spiritually.
Owls are creatures of mystery and magic, shown throughout history to represent wisdom, protection, guardianship and transitioning.
